from 13 June 2010

What do I see? I am aware of most of the things around me through taste, smell, hearing, touch and sight. That is those occurrences that are close to me, that intervene in my immediate environment and in which I have some small influence.

I use the camera to cadre and capture some of these momentary instances. When I am ready /or/ if I am ready, which is not always the case. It’s not a quest. I don’t set myself a goal. Life is too ‘large’ for that, and too fleeting.

In fact it’s about framing what you see. It’s about telling a story. Getting involved. About density and colour. Giving it a dimension, some meaning, making it interesting. Going as far as you can. At times there might not be a reason, but if it all comes together it makes some sense.

After the capturing mode comes the ‘alteration’. Here there are no barriers, just a little bit of imagination, experience, patience, some time, peace. It’s all very experimental and there are no rules to clutter the process and occasionally there is success. Essentially in my eyes. To be given to other eyes to contemplate, like or dislike, retain or discard. It’s beyond my control then and I’m always surprised at the reactions and opinions voiced, not just, ‘I like it’ / or not, but, ‘It does something for me’. ‘Something different’.

The photos are from Scotland - France - Holland - Italy - Hong Kong and Poland. ‘And all points in between’.

My new website will be opened officially on the 13 June of this year.
